THEME

The end of fighting and the beginning of peace

Reading; Philippians 4 : 4 – 9

SERMON OUTLINE

1) Conflict is an ever-present, and has been since Cain slew Abel.

2) Peace is something we would all long to see on the international and social front? How about your own personal experience ( or otherwise) of peace?

3) The 11th minute of the 11th day of the 11th month was a time of huge celebration in 1918. Many conflicts are an attempt to secure peace in some form. So how do we secure personal peace?

4) According to our age, various things may threaten that – global warming, the need to find a job, exams, health, future worries etc etc.

5) Stories of Sir Richard Dannatt and Gram Seed.

6) Picture of the cross in Coventry cathedral – a dramatic image telling us that Christ died to open the gateway to peace in the human heart

7) The secret is that we need to come in genuine sorrow for wrong-doing and real and whole-hearted trust to Him – and allow Him to be our peace-maker.
