CELL NOTES 14/1/08
ICE BREAKER
Can you describe a memorable visit you have either made, or received, when either you, or the other party, was a stranger, sick or in prison?
THEME
Part 3 of our Mission statement :-
Love a broken world
Reading Matthew 25 : 34 – 40
SERMON OUTLINE
1) As evidenced by newspaper headlines, our own experience and the Bible (Rom 3 : 23, Eph 4 : 18, John 3 : 19) God made the world good and beautiful – but man has spoilt it.
2) We could react by withdrawing, or turning away. Followers of Jesus are called to love and serve our fellow men. (1John 4 : 21,
Heb 13: 1-3, Phil 2 ; 3-8)
3) Who are the broken ones in our midst?
Totley, despite a reputation for being posh, has much real social and spiritual need.
The house-bound – especially the elderly (Catherine Snow).
Young people – growing up in a confusing, often hostile world – need love, guidance, and Jesus. (Ben)
Community activity – is there scope for an inter-church church centre?
Call on cell groups to look outward and spearhead action.
4) We are part of a broken world, but are called to love and witness to Jesus in the midst of it.
QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION

1) In the six areas referred to, where do you find yourself serving most naturally, and in which area do you have most trouble?
2) What is your gut reaction to what you see as the broken world around you? How easily do you share the attitude Jesus describes in the reading?
3) What do you see as the pressing needs in our community? What response can you – individually and as a cell – make in the near future?
4) Are there any areas or needs in the city at large that you/we can be involved in?
