SERMON OUTLINE
1) God wants to have relationship with us. The heart of prayer is developing that relationship.
2) There are numbers of ways we can build a relationship with God. Some, which came from the congregation, and additions from Ben included :-
A prayer walk, coming on a Sunday, using the environment of the garden/countryside, music, imaging pictures, Bible, Looking for His presence in all situations, writing it down, imagining God in the room, personalising Scripture, silence, doing it with others.
3) The passage demonstrates how loving God and others are linked.
4) “Mission is about ushering in the kingdom of heaven in the community, workplace, family, world.” We are called to join in with God to make it happen.
5) Prayer is at the heart of mission because
Without prayer it is just “good works.”
It demonstrates the partnership we have with God
We need to know and share God’s heart.
6) The quality of my relationship with God will reflect on how I am in my conduct in the world and others.
7) The blobs. Which reflects our relationship with God?
QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION
1) Read the passage. What did God say to you on Sunday? What hits you most as you read it?
2) Which of the ways of developing your relationship with God do you find most helpful?
3) In the three possibilities of love relationships (with God, others, self) where are you strongest and where weakest?
4) What does the passage teach about the Kingdom of God?
