IDEA’S FOR CELL PRAYER WEEK

THEME: LOOKING BACK AND LOOKING FORWARD.

ICEBREAKER

Share something funny which happened to you in 2009.

Ask people to reflect on 2009.

Share an answered prayer or a situation where you saw God’s hand at work and spend some time thanking God for hearing us and moving in the different situations talked about.

Read Psalm 66 together,

Pick out v5 and v16

Look at v10-12, Is there anyone who feels they’ve come through a difficult situation this last year? Would they feel able to share their experience?

There may be those who are in the middle of a challenging time, take the opportunity to pray specifically for them and listen to God for any words of knowledge.

Ask what your cell members are looking for in 2010 (Spiritually, not a new car!!). This may be a gift of Healing, Prophesy or Tongues, or perhaps an increase in Faith, Wisdom or Discernment etc.

You could split into 2’s or 3’s to share these things and spend some time praying for each other to grow or receive these things.

Is there a challenging situation anyone has to face in 2010? This could be personal or involving a family member. You could split into smaller groups and pray for each other around this.

JACOB’S DREAM ACTIVITY

(This is where the stones come in).

 Read aloud the following script:-

Look at your stone now. Jacob rested his head on a stone. He used it as a pillow. It was a lot larger than your stone, but just as hard and perhaps made of the same rock. And as Jacob slept God gave him a dream about his future. He told him that he would never desert him, he gave him a promise that Jacob would have the land on which he was lying, and that he would have many descendants.

Now, as you hold your stone, pray that God will guide you and show you the way to go in 2010.  (Short pause). Think firstly about the little daily decisions we all need to make. Pray that we make the right ones. (Pause). Then think about the big decisions. Perhaps your future plans all seem fairly clear, or maybe you’re not so sure, but God is concerned about all our lives. Pray now for the bigger decisions, or for people you know who have to make big decisions. (Pause)

Trust that God will show us what is right whether it be in dreams, visions or the more mundane coincidences or opportunities that seem to fall in our laps. Now put your stone in your pocket and keep it there for a few days, and when you touch your stone remember what God said to Jacob:  “I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”  (Gen 28 v15)

Perhaps you might like to leave your stone under your pillow when you go to bed, and pray that like Jacob, God will guide you through your dreams too.”
