SERMON OUTLINE 

1) Choice activity via the boxes.

2) Impact of influence of friends etc in on the choices we make.

3) How would explain Buckingham Palace to somebody who has no knowledge at all of England? Where the queen lives.

4) The huge impact on the disciples of seeing Jesus physically ascend – realised they must carry out what they were told to do immediately before that – to go and be witnesses.

5) Ascension meant the gift of the Holy Spirit to us all to equip us to do that.

6) Christian experience always to know the presence of Jesus, and to be able to call on Him. We are called to share this knowledge and experience., and not just stay in the comfortable church environment.

7) Loving neighbours implies leading a distinctive, Christ-centred life, and not following the self-centred culture of our modern world.

8) Are we sometimes too pre-occupied with following our own Christian habits to really love our neighbours?

9) Jesus commissioned 11 men (not forgetting the wider group of followers that also existed) from which the whole world-wide church has grown. The best communication is person- to – person. This tiny group changed the world.

10) We need to be open to God-given opportunities to speak about  Jesus to somebody else, and trust the Holy Spirit to give us both the courage and right words.

QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION

1)  As a disciple, what is the impact on you of Jesus’ words (v8), His departure (v9) and of the angels’ promise(v11)?

2)  The Bible clearly teaches that our role as witnesses is until the second coming of Jesus, and a day of judgement for all ( e.g. Heb 9 : 27 – 28). How do you react to that? How can you communicate that to others?

3) To which “Jerusalem” are you called to bear witness? How do you need the Sprit to help you?
