CELL NOTES 19/7/10
ICE BREAKER
What would be your favourite meal to prepare for guests or is that not “your thing”?
THEME
Jesus is the guest of two sisters
Reading; Luke 10 : 38 – 42
SERMON OUTLINE
1) Do you feel Martha gets a raw deal?
2) Mary and Martha had very different temperaments and were apt to clash.
3) The same family appear in John 11 & 12 where it is obvious Jesus loves them both (John 11: 5).
4) What Jesus is saying is “Keep your focus on me. – whatever your temperament you can easily be distracted.”
5) Marthas may be distracted by too many projects, Marys by too much introspection.
6) The potential for distraction for us all is huge – family, work, the desire to please, idleness. idolatry etc. etc.
7) Need to cultivate listening “on the way” being available to Jesus, taking seriously the inner whispers, holding on to what hits us from the Bible, sermons, conversation etc.
8) v42 1 thing is needed. Is there one thing He is saying to you at present?
9) v41 – worry and upset. The antidote is in v42.
