ICE BREAKER

How do you let off steam when you feel angry or irritated with somebody?

THEME

The body of Christ

READING ; Ephesians 4 : 17 – 31

SERMON OUTLINE

1) The focus of Mike Gilbert’s message revolved around the “one another” verses in the New Testament – of which there are many.

2) At the heart of living as the body of Christ is how we treat one another. This is hugely significant  for the health and well-being of the members of the church, and for its witness to those who are “not-yet-Christians”.

3) We were asked to share a way in which we had been “one anothered”, and to think about how we have “one anothered” somebody else, recently.

4) “One another” verses :-

John 13:12, Romans 12;10, Ephesians 4;32, Hebrews 3:13, Hebrews 10;24, James 5;16, Galatians 6;2, Romans 15;7, Ephesians 5;21, Colossians 3;13, Galatians 5:13

WORSHIP IDEA

Write out the “one another” verse on slips of paper.

Either

Play some music, and quietly pass the slips of paper round the room. As you receive a verse, respond to it silently in worship, asking God what he is saying to you through it, then pass on the verse and follow the same routine with the next verse that is passed to you.

Or

Invite each person to choose a verse, and lead the group in a prayer based on its message.

QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION

What did God say to you on Sunday? What have you done about it so far?

1) Read the Ephesians passage. What are the positive / negative motivations which prompt you to live for Christ? Where do you feel you are making progress in your Christian life at present?

2) Looking at the “one another” verses, which would you say

You have been on the receiving end of form somebody else

You need to work on at the moment?

3) Practically, how can we grow in living the life set out before us in this week’s study, and not just talk about it?
