CELL NOTES 25/2/08

ICE BREAKER

What family rule or custom did you most appreciate, or most react against as you were growing up?

THEME

So what’s in name?

Readings Mat. 5 : 33 – 37 & Exodus 20 : 7

SERMON OUTLINE

1)  The third commandant is not so much about blasphemy, but about how I live reflects the life of Jesus – whose name we bear.

2) A huge aspect of this is being faithful in the way I live - to the matters God has given me now, be they small or great.

3) For many people, their image of God will be determined by what they see in those who claim to be Christians – I misuse His name if my life does not commend Christ to others.

4) Am I faithful to my family and friends – in the small things of life, 7 days a week?

5) Brother Lawrence :-

God looks at the love with which it is done, and not the scale of the work.

6) Will I let God model faithfulness in me?

QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION

Sunday morning’s service was rather different. On Sunday evening we concentrated more explicitly on the third of the Ten Commandments.

1) What did you bring away from Sunday? What did God say to you?

2) Read the passages.

3) How may we misuse the Lord’s name in word or deed?

4) When have you been proud to have kept a promise? When do you struggle to keep your word?

5) Do you swear under your breath? How do you feel about that?

6) What does being faithful mean to you?
